The Palacio da Quinta Challenge

Jardim Vista integrates the luxury development into a rich natural landscape

Jardim Vista is creating the gardens for one of the most prestigious projects currently being undertaken in the Algarve. The Palácio da Quinta Resort & Spa is being developed by the IMOCOM group in Quinta do Lago. Jardim Vista aims to enhance the project by integrating the built areas into the natural surroundings as harmoniously as possible.

The concept proposed by Jardim Vista has a Mediterranean flavor, and involves rich green areas between the buildings, lush formal gardens and informal organic green spaces sculpted by lakes and springs. The Palácio is located in a wooded area made up essentially of stone pine and cork oaks: Jardim Vista is preserving as many of the primary species as possible.

Many of the species Jardim Vista is using for new planting are native to the region or have been traditionally used there for centuries, and are thus well-adapted to the location’s natural conditions. Among these are rosemary, lavender, roses, olive trees, pine trees and orange trees.

The complex’s monumental main entrance is set back from the main road, leaving a significant strip of primary vegetation that includes stone pines, carob trees and cork oaks. On the eastern and western sides are the townhouses’ swimming pools, surrounded by subtropical vegetation adapted to the area’s soil and climate conditions, which is backed by primary vegetation.

A ceremonial path from the main entrance at the southern point is edged by two large reflecting pools. The pools define the entire spatial organization, providing not only grandeur upon arrival, but also dividing the development’s built areas; a hotel and two sets of townhouses. The path is bordered by palm trees set in beds of lavender. Beyond are expanses of lawn that lead up to the townhouses.

With a vast portfolio of concluded projects, Jardim Vista rests on a solid combination of design quality, meticulous execution and professional maintenance, vital if gardens are to achieve their full potential.

Among Jardim Vista’s clients are several prestigious developers and private clients in Portugal, Madeira, Spain and Gibraltar. Richard Westcott is a landscape architect with vast international experience.
