The Oceânico Group was launched by Simon Burgess and Gerry Fagan in 2000 and is already one of the leading players in Golf Resort development in Europe.
The Group’s early development strategy focused principally on beach resorts in the Western Algarve.
But in the last three years their rapid expansion has seen that strategy broaden into golf course development across Portugal, taking in the Atlantic islands of the Azores, and Obidos on the Silver Coast, north of Lisbon.
Earlier this year Englishman Burgess and Fagan, from Ireland, took the Oceânico Group into the elite stratosphere of Golf Resorts, purchasing Lusotur Golfe, S.A. from Andre Jordan.
It brought them the five famed golf courses of Vilamoura—Victoria (where the European Tour’s Portugal Masters will be held from AC to 2009), The Old Course, Millennium, Laguna and Pinhal.
Factor in their existing investments in two new courses on their 260 hectares Amendoeira estate on the Algarve, plus the courses at Óbidos and in the Azores, and it all means the Oceânico Group now hold Europe’s greatest and finest portfolio of golf courses alongside their beach resorts, with an overall property portfolio worth close to €2b.

Burgess and Fagan were already the driving force behind the Amendoeira Golf Resort at Silves, the ancient capital of the Algarve, with one of the two courses designed by Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo, the other by Christy O’Connor, both of them due for completion in the summer of next year.
And they are also launching two new golf resort ventures, with the MSF Group in Obidos and with the Siram Group in the Azores, after buying the famous Batalha and Furnas courses from the Azorean government, re-naming them the Azalea Golf and Leisure Resort and Cedars respectively.
Golf legend Seve Ballesteros has designed the 18-hole Royal Obidos championship course on the Silver Coast, promising ‘a great and wonderful place’ for buyers, holidaymakers and golfers.
Royal Obidos is an eco-friendly 132-hectares estate close to the beach, offering a range of over 600 luxury properties set around a stunning championship golf course.
Oceânico are crafting a magnificent resort creatively and sympathetically situated to blend in with the wonderful pines and heather of the area, the contours of a landscape gently descending to the sea.

The resort features a five-star Condominium Hotel with Spa, health club and conference centre, four and five bedroom villas in golf front plots and a selection of two and three bedroom apartments, plus a commercial centre.
Its leisure facilities include swimming pools, tennis courts, a sculpture park and nature trails.
And, in association with Siram Tourism, Oceânico has established Azores Golf Islands which will upgrade the existing 27-hole Batalha and 18-hole Furnas courses to create the first luxury golf resorts on the islands, recently voted ‘The Best Undiscovered Golf Destination’ on the planet.
Investors at the five-star Amendoeira Resort, due for completion in 2009, are being offered membership of the seven world-class Algarve golf courses.
Apartments cost €495,000 for two bedrooms; €950,000 buys a three-bedroom villa. Larger, more opulent, houses on prime plots around the fairways – called Prestige Villas, with €2m price tags – include a pool and a garden designed by world famous landscape architect Diarmuid Gavin. Prestige owners are also provided with an executive car service, private concierge and the use of an ocean going Sunseeker luxury cruiser, plus membership of all seven Oceânico golf courses in the Algarve.
Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the foothills of the Monchique Mountains, a short distance inland from the Algarve coast, Amendoeira will also include a golf academy, driving range, international tennis club, rugby and football pitches and bowling greens.

The Oceânico Group consists of Oceânico Developments, Oceânico Golf and Oceânico Resorts & Leisure.
Oceânico Developments is the market leader in high quality property developments in Portugal. Specialising in creating luxury four and five star residential and holiday homes, the company’s fully completed developments include Jardim da Meia Praia near Lagos, Estrela da Luz and Vila Baia in Praia da Luz.
Developments currently under construction include Belmar Spa & Beach Resort, overlooking Porto de Mós beach, Quinta do Monte Funchal on the prestigious Funchal Ridge and Amendoeira, the €500 million golf resort in the district of Silves.
Oceânico Resorts & Leisure, manages the range of developments to four/five-star luxury standard, and offers holiday rentals at the properties.
Oceânico Golf oversees the management and operations of the group’s 10 golf courses.

Oceânico has earned high praise from the Media for the quality of their developments—the British TV programme ‘A Place In The Sun’ told their millions of views that Oceânico has the ‘Wow!” factor—and recently the Belfast Telegraph newspaper wrote:
‘Oceânico is a development company that just seems to be getting the business mix right. In a straw poll conducted amongst local Portuguese council officials and satisfied customers the same words kept coming up time and time again: ‘honest’, ‘generous’, ‘trustworthy.’
‘The principals themselves, Simon Burgess and Gerry Fagan, say that they are merely following the rules. Refreshingly, they feel it is in their own best interests not to try and save that extra few euros by cutting corners.’ |
